Hello. Bychance I saw this image on the Today page in DA and I immediately thought "that is digitally painted by a traditional artist". Checked your gallery and seems to be right. I am also a traditional portrait artist who is exploring digital painting just for the last few months. I can see you have traditional training on defining values and knowledge of the anatomy. You choose a very difficult stock image to draw becouse the shadows in her face are quite soft and indistict. Even on your drawing I can see it is natural daylight instead of a lamp light. That is really cool! The shadows on your drawing are harder and clearlier defined than on the photo. Maybe you could do some blending. I think that right now you still are more comfortoble with traditional media than digital brushes, those drawings look a bit more free. Success with further work :)

Hmmm, well, this is my first black and white picture to ever critique, but surfice to say that this picture isn't all that bad. Sure, it doesn't have color and vibrancy, but then again, the texture of both hair and skin seem very well done, and even life like. However, the one thing that causes reason for such a lesser score of points, is that where the nose bridge meets the eyebrows, it looks to wide or large, it doesn't feel right with the rest of the picture...unless it was an actual portrate of a person who has such a feature. In which case would the pic gain more points, and I to learn a valuable lesson in that not all pictures are meant to represent the epidome of perfect beauty (which is within the eye of the beholder, in most cases).

My clip note version to this critique? Good texture, needing of a reference picture to better understand, but also good in highlight, shade and development of skill. Keep it up! :dummy:

looks nice, but i think you could go further with it. Im not sure if the model's face has eyes that far apart or not, but something in the facial structure looks off to me. I like the depth and shadows youv used. keep up the good work :-)

Yes it's true about the eyes being too far apart. I've been getting this a lot from other comments. The proportions being inaccurate causes a ripple effect that affects the entire piece.

Very beautiful - I love the highlights and I like that your brushwork is visible. So often I feel digital artists overwork their paintings trying to achieve a life-like look. I am all about letting the brushwork be part of the communication in a painting =)

Creativity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual.
